The Emergence of Electronic Communication And The Changes it Brought to us

Electronic communication refers to the usage of electronic media such as e-mails, messaging, blog, etc. in transmitting information.

A long time ago, people had different ways of sending information. Traditional communication includes cave painting, petroglyphs, smoke signal, carrier pigeons, postal system, newspaper, radio, telegraph, telephone and television. It was the time when people put a lot of effort in recording, receiving and sending information. Though some traditional media such as television, radio and telephone are easier to use than the older ones, there are also limitations in their usage. Electronic communication brought changes to our daily lives, everything become so easy and convenient from all the hassles people had to go through just to share information before.

Here are some advantages of electronic communication :


1. Interactive

Electronic media is interactive than the traditional one. For instance, the advertisement in social media and in television– you might have questions about the product that was not mentioned in the advertisement, but the problem is , no one will answer your question. While, if you happen to see an advertisement in one of the social media platforms, then you can write your question in comment section. You will likely get a response immediately.


2. Effortless

Nowadays, sending information is as easy as putting food in your mouth. You just have to move fingers on your keyboard and click the send button. For instance, sending a document via email and mail. Sending a document via email is faster than the mail. The receiver will not wait for days to receive the document.


3.Real-time meeting

Being away from our loved ones is too difficult to bear. You will have to wait for days, weeks, months or worse, for years , to see them again. Although they communicate everyday via letters, phone call or text messaging, talking with them face-to-face is still different. Various apps for video calls are now available. You can now see your loved ones face to face via Skype, Messenger, Line, WhatsApp, and other video conferencing apps. These can also be used in formal meetings such as business meetings, webinars, etc.


4.Easy access to information

Internet undeniably makes information become accessible to everyone. Everyone can now access information wherever they are. Time and place is not a problem anymore today in getting information. You do not have to wait for libraries to open to get the book you need. You do not have to go outside your house to get the information you’re looking for. Everything is inside your phone now with the use of internet. You can get information in blogs and websites, you can share them to others or post comments to ask questions and share your thoughts about a particular topic.
